This friendly competition invites individuals, families, and groups of all ages to create their own sand masterpieces alongside the professional sculptures. It’s a fun and inspiring way to be part of the event — no experience required!

Event Details

Date: Saturday, November 15
Time: Competition begins at 10:00 AM
Location: Siesta Beach – South End Contest Area
Awards: Announced at 4:00 PM in the Music Ten

Participants (solo or teams) will be assigned a plot in the amateur sculpting area on Siesta Beach. You’ll have several hours to design and build your sculpture before judging begins in the afternoon.

Judges will evaluate each sculpture based on creativity, technique, and overall presentation. All tools and supplies such as buckets for transporting water must be provided by participants.

Entry Categories & Pricing

Turtle Bale Group | 18 & Older – $55
Teams of up to five adults (ages 18+).

Turtle Bale Group | Youth 10–17 – $40
Teams of up to five youth participants, ages 10–17.

Leatherback Solo | 18 & Older – $30
Individual adult entry (ages 18+).

Loggerhead | Youth 11–17 – $15
One or two participants, ages 11–17.

Hatchling | Under 10 – $12
One or two participants, under 10 years old.

What to Expect

• Contest area opens for check-in at 8:00 AM on Saturday, November 15
• Sculpting begins at 10:00 AM and ends at 3:00 PM.
• Awards are presented at 4:00 PM in the Music Tent.
• Bring your own tools and buckets for water (no hoses allowed).
• Coolers with snacks and drinks are welcome.

Whether you’re competing for fun or bragging rights, the Amateur Sand Sculpting Contest is one of the most memorable parts of the Crystal Classic weekend. Gather your friends, grab your shovels, and see what you can create in the sand!
