Hi, I’m Carl Jara.

At heart, I’m a pretty simple guy. When I’m not spending time with my incredible daughter, you’ll likely find me woodworking, gardening, enjoying good food, diving into a great book, or savoring a cold beer.

I’ve been lucky enough to hold two of the most envied jobs out there: exhibit designer for the Cleveland Museum of Natural History and professional sand sculptor. Over the past 34 years, my passion for sand sculpture has taken me around the world. I’ve had the honor of winning around a hundred medals and competing alongside some of the best sculptors in the field—many of whom have become like family.

For me, sand sculpture isn’t just art—it’s a form of worship, a spiritual experience. It’s how I express the turning points and deeper layers of my personal journey. Creating in this medium brings me joy, and I’m grateful for the chance to share it with you.
