The 7th Annual Siesta Key Crystal Classic is scheduled for November 11 - 15, 2016, on Siesta Beach. Recently named America's #1 Beach it has become a favorite of the professional sand sculptors who have competed in the past six years. Citing the beauty and cleanliness of the pristine white sand, sculptors have remarked that their sculptures look almost as if they were "carved in marble." The Siesta Key Crystal Classic connects the arts and the beach in ways never before seen in Sarasota.
Founded in 2010, the Crystal Classic has quickly become a local tradition and a draw for visitors from outside Sarasota County, which account for over 50% of the 40,000+ attendees.
Master sculptors spend three days creating sand masterpieces, some over ten feet tall, and transform the always beautiful Siesta Beach into an outdoor art gallery. Visitors enter the Sand Sculpture Gallery and immediately notice the Sponsor Logo Sculpture and are fascinated by it size and the number of community organizations and local businesses that support the event. Visitors arriving on Friday have the opportunity to see the beginning stages of the sculptures and enjoy guessing what the pile of sand will look after the sculptor completes the transformation.
The competition phase of the Crystal Classic ends on Sunday at noon leaving the remainder of the day, Monday and new this year, Tuesday too, for visitors to view completed sculptors before they are cleared away on Wednesday morning.
There are many other activities that are perfect for families and adults alike. From the new Learning Curve, an eduational experience in sand and its origins to live music under our 2100 sf tent on the sand to the Quick Sand competition, lessons and so much more, everyone will find something to love about this year's festival.
In a community well known for its beaches and its cultural offerings, the organizers of the Crystal Classic have discovered a way to combine the two for the benefit of the Siesta Key and Sarasota communities.
